From Dated Carpet to Stunning Timber: Discovering Tasmania Oak Floors Beneath
There’s something incredibly satisfying about uncovering hidden beauty — and our latest project was the perfect example of that.
Recently, we were called in to inspect a home with tired, worn-out carpet that had seen better days. The owners were ready for a change, hoping to freshen up their space and possibly switch to timber flooring. But what we found beneath the surface was better than anyone expected…
Original Tasmania Oak floors, buried for decades under that old carpet — and still in amazing shape.
The Reveal: Goodbye Carpet, Hello Character

As we peeled back the first corner of the carpet, we could see hints of the warm, honey tones typical of Tasmania Oak. What started as a routine carpet removal quickly turned into a full-scale restoration of something truly special.
The timber had been well protected by the carpet, with minimal damage, only a few staples and some adhesive residue to contend with. Under the dust and wear was a gorgeous, character-filled hardwood floor just waiting to breathe again.

The Restoration Process
- Full sanding to smooth out years of hidden wear
- Stain-free finish to celebrate the natural grain and colour of the Tasmania Oak
- Three coats of premium water-based polyurethane for a durable, low-sheen finish that feels both modern and classic
The results? Absolutely stunning.
Why This Matters

Projects like this remind us why we do what we do. There’s a story in every floor — and sometimes, the best design choice is already beneath your feet. Tasmania Oak is prized for its strength, neutral tones, and timeless appearance, making it perfect for both modern and traditional interiors.
By restoring instead of replacing, the homeowner not only saved money but also added real character and value to their home.
