Tasmanian Oak Floor Refinish Project – Curtin, Canberra

Project Overview

This week we completed a beautiful Tasmanian oak floor refinishing project in Curtin, Canberra and the results are amazing! The owners were looking for a clean, contemporary look that complemented their modernised interiors but still provided the charm of the natural timber. The solution was a full sand and refinish (to remove the previous coating and all scuff marks), and then seal it with a Berger Seidle 2K ceramic matt finish; a premium product for protection and lasting beauty.

The Client’s Vision

The client provided a simple, yet elegant brief to us, refresh the timber; keep it natural; and then cover it with a contemporary matt coating that would stand up to kids and pets.

Problems with Existing Floor

Years of Use

Similar to many original floors, this floor had seen years of daily, daily wear and tear. Scratches, scuffs, and dents were readily visible in the high-traffic areas.

Sun Discolouration and Deep Scratches

Significant UV damage created colour variation in areas exposed to sunlight. Additionally, gouges created by furniture and pet claws defaced the floor in a few areas.

Old Coatings Broken Down

The existing polyurethane coating was broken down and yellow, which was useless in-protecting the timber surface and rendered the timber featureless.
